We’re very happy about the women’s march to ban the bomb. Thousands of women gathered in New York City and around the world, and of course in LA, to protest nuclear weapons and in support of their prohibition. It’s important to understand that 130 governments will resume negotiations in the United Nations on a groundbreaking new treaty that will ban nuclear weapons when adopted. Such a treaty will make it illegal for any signatory country to possess nuclear weapons and will impose economic, legal and political barriers to nuclear weapons possession. It will further stigmatize nuclear weapons and help to propel their elimination.
As we have said previously, no one has any authority to launch a nuclear weapon. The president of the United States has no authority to commit such a crime against humanity, and it is required by the Nuremberg precedents that anyone who is told to launch must refuse the order. People were hanged after Nuremberg because they obeyed orders, which took some 12 million people off the earth, the holocaust. They were told that you had to disobey orders, and this is part and parcel of the military code of justice that you only obey legal orders.
