Pacifica Commentary for April 7, 2003

Hello, this is Blase Bonpane with a comment. Hospitals are overflowing with the wounded and dying. Cluster bombs are falling. A children's holocaust is taking place in Baghdad. It's not simply the children whose heads are blown off or torn to shreds by cluster bombs, many are shell shocked for life by the sheer concussion of bombs and missiles.

This crime against humanity must come before an international tribunal. We can easily identify the twenty or so suspects who designed this evil massacre. They must be indicted and tried for war crimes.

Most seriously, as they continue to lose, they are more apt to use nuclear weapons. As our listeners know, during the failed Bay of Pigs attack in 1961 our "intelligence" determined that Cuba would fall like an over-ripe fruit.

What a surprise, Cuba came to the defense of its head of state and repelled the poorly informed invaders. Following the absolute failure of this attempt to overthrow the government of Cuba, our "experts" turned to nuclear warfare as the next step. We came within one word of having a planet busting nuclear disaster as we went toe to toe with the Soviet Union in the Cuban missile crisis during the administration of John F. Kennedy.

The fact that we did not have a nuclear holocaust was an accident. A Soviet nuclear sub commander rescinded the order to fire which had already been given.

The bellicosity of our current leadership makes nuclear war more of a threat now than it was during the Cuban missile crisis. Friends, our planet cannot sustain a nuclear exchange. The cabal that designed the Iraq massacre does not know what it is doing. We must stop the war now. Support our troops. Bring them home now.
